Klimaforum starts where Klimaforum09 ended. The purpose of Klimaforum is to pass on the knowledge accumulated in the organization of Klimaforum09 and to further the work of the People’s Declaration: System Change – Not Climate Change.
Klimaforum aims to
- Bring forward Klimaforum09s experience to the Mexican grassroots and civil society movements and assist in (to the degree it is needed) creating a "Klimaforum10" in connection with COP16 in Mexico 2010.
- Appeal to the United Nations regarding the need for, in connection with the COP-process, to support the organization of an open and free alternative, where all are welcome.
- Spread key messages from the People´s Declaration and contribute to a continued discussion and further development of the Declaration up to and during the COP16.
Important milestones are
- World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in Cochabamba, Bolivia from April 19th to 22nd 2010. Social organizations, indigenous groups, networks, NGOs, political movements, scientists, government leaders, etc. will meet and discuss, analyze and define strategies that can lift us out of the climate crisis. The meeting in Bolivia is an obvious place to meet and mobilize. The conference also relates to the Declaration as one of the goals is to develop a "Universal Declaration of Rights of Mother Earth."
- La Vía Campesina invites all movements and organisations to start the preparation process for COP 16 and is hosting a meeting in Mexico City the 5th and 6th of May, 2010.
